Thanksgiving Meal Program

IMG_3008

2018 was our second year providing meals to the homebound members of our community. Our youth worked hard preparing meals of turkey, rolls, green beans, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie for our deliveries.

Much thanks to all of the adult workers that helped make this possible. Cathy Helfer for working hard in the kitchen and preparing desserts, Jon Hetzel for driving our youth to the deliveries, and all of those workers at Sinclair’s Bakery that cooked the turkey for us which saved us a lot of time!

This year we were able to have four different teams go out into the community and deliver meals as well as spend some time talking to the individuals we delivered to.  I think the youth did a great job this year and I look forward to increasing those that we are able to bless next year!

If you would like to help support this mission, be sure to check out our Mission Of The Month list or our Noisy Offering list for how to support us financially or e-mail the church at jerseyvillemethodist@gmail.com for ways to get involved delivering meals, preparing desserts, or adding a name to our list for receiving a meal.  Thank you for your support!

Feed The 5,000 (Two Years Later…)

Two years ago on super Bowl Sunday, I stood before the church congregation and read the miracle of the 2 fish and 5 loaves of bread. With support from the Missions Board, I explained the need for a continuous program that would provide food for the hungry in our community.

That was the beginning of our Feed 5000 mission.

We began with the simple plan of purchasing the best sale items of the week with money donated by the church. Over time, with the guidance from the local Salvation Army, this has changed to 4 weekly lists of food to donate:

  1. Canned Fruit and Vegetables
  2. Side Dishes
  3. Breakfast Items
  4. Meals In A Can

I am proud to announce that with your generous donations of money and food, we have reached over 10,000 items! These donations have been picked up weekly by Julie Goheen from the Salvation Army and Larry Muntz with the Jersey Township food pantry.

Matthew 14:15-16: As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food. Jesus replied “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

Women’s Bible Study

Calling all women of faith (shaky or solid)

….Ever feel edgy?

Anxious?

Impending dread?

A storm is brewing?

“The anxiety has its reasons…Airplanes fall out of the sky. Terrorists terrorize. Good people turn bad. The other shoe will fall. Fine print is going to be found. It’s just a matter of time…” (Lucado)

If this introduction sounds familiar or you want to make some sense out of this chaotic world we live in, please consider joining the Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study Group at JUMC meeting from 9:00 am to 11:00 am beginning Tuesday, June 18, 2019 for 5 weeks. (June 18, 25 & July 2, 9 & 16).

We will begin studying Max Lucado’s Anxious for Nothing – Finding calm in a chaotic world DVD study. Pastor Lucado also says we worry. We even feel anxious about feeling anxious. Take heart, my friend.

We all encounter anxiety, but we don’t have to give in to it. The road map is found in Philippians 4:4-8.

Join us for a great time of study, prayer, sometimes snacks, & enjoyable girlship. For more information, contact Sara in the church office or Jan Jorden.

Past Studies:

Listen, Love, Repeat: Karen Ehman is a well known speaker and author of ten books and speaker with the Proverbs 31 Ministry. We will begin the study – Listen, Love, Repeat – Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World.

The text & workbook accompanies the DVD 6-session teaching. The text contains 10 chapters so we will study for whatever length of time we need to. What a great topic to study & share our experiences as we try to be aware of others’ needs in a selfish, self-centered world!

Taste and See:  Margaret Feinberg’s new study (DVD & workbook) is Taste and See Discovering God Among Butchers, Bakers, & Fresh Food Makers. She has chosen 6 foods from the Bible that ties in ancient customs and how God’s abundance applies to our lives today. We will end up near Easter and will incorporate the study of Passover for Jews and Christians which is exciting as well!
