Appalachian Service Project

Over the summer, I’ve had the chance to do a lot of amazing things with the youth in our church.  While the monster truck rallies and rock concerts have been fun, I’d have to say the our Sr. High mission trip to Appalachian has been one of the best experiences so far.I went in to this week expecting to be a huge blessing to the family that we would be serving for the week, and while I’m sure we were appreciated, I didn’t expect to be blessed so much in return.

The family we assisted showed nothing but love and acceptance to us from the very start.  They were two of the happiest people that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and they taught me a lot about endurance through hardships and overcoming circumstances.

The center we stayed at was a great experience too.  We were able to serve with youth from churches in Michigan and Ohio.  It was so awesome to see people from different parts of the country and (gasp) even different denominations, come together for a united purpose.  We had evening devotions together, we ate together, played together, and had the opportunity to take communion together on our last night.

It was such an amazing time, I can’t wait to do it again next year!
